Most of the personal information we hold is not about our customers. It is about drivers, who never contacted us and did not choose us. This page is mainly about them.
When a credentialed business orders a motor vehicle record, we receive from the state — through our data provider — the driving history of the person named in the request. That can include licence status, class and endorsements, violations, suspensions and accidents, along with the name, date of birth and licence number used to find the record.
We obtain these records only where the requester has a permissible purpose under the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act (18 U.S.C. §2721). Every request records that purpose, who made it and when. We keep that log for five years and it cannot be edited.
The business that ordered the report, and only that business. Our data provider processes the request on our behalf. We disclose information to others only where the law requires it.
The DPPA restricts what a recipient may do with a record afterwards. Businesses that use our service agree to those restrictions in writing before they are given access.
Records are encrypted where they are stored. Access requires two-factor authentication. Every view of a report is written to an append-only log together with the reason it was permitted. Internal access to a customer's data requires a documented reason and raises an alert.
For the businesses that use the service we hold the account details they give us — company name, contact details, billing information — and a record of their orders. Card details are handled by our payment processor and are not stored on our systems.
